“A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.” – Tm Cahill
Who knew that after just a 20 minute visit at a small regional park in Eastern Wyoming we would become fast friends with a kind couple from Nevada. After taking some pictures and offering to text it to us, Craig & Annette included their home address in the Carson City, NV area with an invitation to visit if ever in the area. Fast forward 6 weeks and we found ourselves needing a place to stay in that very area. California and Oregon fires had made a longer stay in Northern California close to impossible. We were excited and relieved to have this kind couple open their home (and driveway for our RV) to us.
We arrived just hours before President Trump held a rally just 10 minutes away in Minden, NV. It was fun to watch the rally with Craig & Annette, we felt it was educational for our girls. After all this in one big field trip we’re on so it’s always in the back of our mind that our activities be educational.
Picking pears and apples in abundance. Over the following few days we dehydrated them, made a pizza with them, and later made some applesauce and pie. Annette opened up her kitchen to us and Marin made a few different dishes. It was luxury to have a huge kitchen to spread out and experiment with some new recipes. Yum!
Since day one we struggled with our bike rack. Turns out Craig can fix just about anything. A huge help was moving the hitch receiver to a better position on the trailer, then reinforcing and adding to the bike rack to carry all four of our bikes (we had previously had to junk half of our bike rack so it only hauled two at a time). These two worked all day (on one of the smokiest sky days). I have to admit, it was cool to see them working and wearing the cool “Transformer” welding face shield.
An old fashioned stereoscopic 3D maker (lots of images from Yosemite which was ironic because we looked at these the very day we were suppose to be in Yosemite NP but couldn’t due to the smoke and unhealthy air quality). A pump organ. It was a workout but fun once we got playing. A hot tub! Sophie was in heaven since, up until now, the only water we’d had to “jump into” was quite chilly, often glacial run off streams and lakes. 🙂
Craig gave the girls a quick tractor driving lesson in their beautiful backyard. They were all smiles to be able to scoop dirt and drive a tractor.
What a wonderful blessed break from our quick-moving travels! We greatly enjoyed our time with Craig & Annette. We shared stories and faith-filled thoughts that brought us closer as friends. We look forward to meeting up once again in the near future.
