As always, Harvest Hosts does not disappoint! This plantation came on to Harvest Host just a few weeks prior to our visit. We lucked out! Great location and such a fun tour. This plantation has been in the family for 6 generations (130 years!). The owners live there and personally gave us the 1 hour and 20 minute private tour. There were so many artifacts inside the house we could have spent longer – each piece had such an amazing story. Some pieces were linked to past presidents of the United States, celebrities, and artists. (No pictures were allowed inside so you’ll have to use your imagination.)
Ardoyne Plantation in Louisiana is on the national register of historic places.

Owners are of German & Scottish descent.
•
This Victorian (gingerbread) Gothic (pointy roof lines) home was built in 1894 by the Shaffer family and direct descendants live there today (the 6th generation). We got a tour straight from the owners.
•
It is a post civil war home on a 300 acre sugarcane plantation that is still producing. 🚜
•
Ardoyne was named after a Scottish castle and means “little knoll” because it’s considered to be on a hill since it is 10ft above sea level in these parts.
•
The inside is beautiful with cypress and red pine wood, hand stamped wallpaper, a dozen fireplaces, and so many original artifacts it feels like a homey museum.
•
Many original Audubon paintings of birds fill the home. 🖼

The girls participated in a scavenger hunt and won prizes. 😄❤️
Beautiful bayou sunset.
Our camping spot was amazing and Susan, the owner, told us to help ourselves to the oranges, satsumas, and kumquats. The large oaks, magnolias, and cypress trees were dripping with Spanish moss it was eerily magical.
