801,000 acres of pure magnificence! I thought for sure this was the biggest national park while we were driving through but it turns out it’s number 15. Fourteen national parks are bigger – 7 of them being in Alaska. Anyways we didn’t get through the whole park with our one day. We visited Chisos Basin, Fossil Discovery, and Santa Elena Canyon.
CHISOS BASIN
Lost mine hike
Volcanic activity brought these amazing rock formations to us for our viewing pleasure.
FOSSIL DISCOVERY
Dinosaur bones and fossils were first adiscovered here in the 1950s. Gryposaurus beving the most common in Big Bend.
ROSS MAXWELL SCENIC DRIVE
SANTA ELENA CANYON (Rio Grande)
The Rio Grande runs along 245 miles of the park’s border. Mexico is just on the other side of the Rio!
